A Comparison of Taylor and Fayol’s Management Theories.
Henri Fayol’s Administrative Management theory is a general description of the activities of a manager and the principles of any organization. Personally I agree with most of the points and I think that they are very satisfying and practical theories.The main objective of Fayol was to identify management how separate set of functions could be performed by the managers in an organization. The skills and abilities required by the managers to run the organization is truly dependent on the skills and qualification they possess. The advantages which Henri Fayol theory indicated are.Taylor’s management theory focuses on task management. This theory is called “scientific management” or “Taylorism”. He found that two different workers performing the same task will have different outcome and the number of output. He categorized them as first class worker and average worker (Sheldrake J, 2003a).
Prior to Henri Fayol's development of an administrative theory of management, managers took a scientific approach to work, attempting to maximize productivity by treating their workers like.Fayol attempted to develop a universal theory of management and stressed upon need for teaching the theory of management. Taylor focused his attention on fact by management and his principles are applicable on shop floor. But Fayol concentrated on function of managers and on general principles of management wheel could be equally applied in all.
Fayol lays down the following organisation duties for managers: ensure the plan is judiciously prepared and strictly carried out, see that human and material structures are consistent with objectives, resources and general operating policies.
